stoopid 'improved' pottermore

First, I get a bay mare as a patronus, when I have ZERO AFFINITY FOR HORSES (more on my excessive use of ALL CAPS below) – although, as an animal rights activist, I of course have only the deepest respect for them.

So then I create a new account and get wild rabbit. A much more suitable patronus for me.

Then I got mixed up about which account I was in and did the sorting ceremony: SLYTHERIN! (Turns out it was bay mare, and I had just never sorted. I had been too busy looking at all the interesting chapter stuff WHICH THEY NO LONGER HAVE ON STINKY OL' 'POTTERLESS'.)

It's 'cause I went "left to the sea" instead of "center to the forest," I just know it.

I used to wish I was a Griffindor, and I have been brave often in life, so I 'played one on tv'. But deep down, I knew I was a Hufflepuff. So after a while, I went with Grifflepuff, and felt okay with that.

Then, two days ago, I sort Slytherin. Perhaps it was a mistake to take the quiz amidst getting my brain zapped with a giant magnet, which has caused a wee bit of RAGE OUTBURSTS. But perhaps my inner Slytherin was just finally being released. A distinct possibility, I'll admit.

Well, I toodled on over to my wild rabbit account and went center to the forest: RAVENCLAW!

*attempts to not pull hair out*

Incidently, both accounts gave me a 10" wand with unicorn hair, though the other features were different.

Cursed Child, anyone?

I am skipping Hogwarts Square. Draco and the Malfoys will be at GeekyCon. :(
Also, the thought of driving to Cambridge on a weekend is not at all appealing. I have to do it for work...
So,I will head to the Brookline Booksmith.

But wait, there's more!

Following up my Harvard Museum of Natural History post... have you guys heard about the Smackdown in Hogwarts Square? Check it out:,-Part-2.aspx

It's a battle of the bands between Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys! Plus many shops and businesses will be featuring Potter-themed products and events, and there will be Quidditch, etc...

Friday July 29th! That's this Friday!

I'll have just gotten back from my trip to the UK so I don't know if I'll make it! But you guys should go and take lots and lots of photos!

Anyone up for opening night of DH part one?

I've never made it to the opening night of a Harry Potter movie, and I've been in the fandom since OOtP. Methinks it's high time to change this. Anyone planning on going to see DH at midnight on November 19 when it opens in Boston? Just gauging interest here. Hope to go if my husband can babysit, and would love to go with fandom peeps.

EDIT: According to Fandango, Regal Fenway and Harvard Square are both SOLD OUT. Tickets for the 12:01 showing at Loews Boston Common (listed under 11/18/10) are still available, but may not be for long. I bought my ticket tonight, just to be safe.

Aeternitas 2011

I just wanted to let everyone over here know that HP-MA is planning an HP conference in NH for Spring 2011.

Here is the blurb from our website:

Four days of pure fandom magic await you at Aeternitas. Being held just months before the last Potter film is released, Aeternitas is a conference focused on the continued life of our fandom. Our theme for the weekend is magic is forever. We believe that the friendship and family found in our fandom is forever. This conference is meant to celebrate that.

Aeternitas is like past and present Harry Potter conferences in many ways. It follows the Thursday through Sunday schedule. It consists of formal academic programming during the day, and has evening events like wizard rock shows and a formal ball like other conferences.

However, you will find that Aeternitas also differs from the other conferences in many ways. Aeternitas will be an intimate conference with a maximum of 500 attendees. By the end of the weekend we hope you will recognize the faces of all of the other attendees and feel a true sense of community.

The venue also differentiates Aeternitas from other conferences- unlike the chain hotels Harry Potter conferences are usually held at, the Margate Resort is an independent family-owned hotel. If our conference sells out, we will be the only guests on site during Aeternitas.

Cost is one of the biggest differences between our conference and others. We have kept the registration price as low as possible. The low registration cost combined with the affordability of the hotel makes our conference a very economical choice. We hope to give a lot of amazing and memorable experiences for as little a cost as possible.

Aeternitas will offer a little something for every member of our fandom. There will be cosplay, academic programming, dancing, wizard rock, pool parties, and so much more. Please use the navigation bar on the left to look at all of the things Aeternitas has to offer. Whether you are coming from New England or California, we hope you will join us for this fabulous event.

Any and all proceeds from this event will be donated to our two charities- The Harry Potter Alliance and The Lung Cancer Alliance.

Aeternitas 2011 is being held from April 28, 2011 to May 1, 2011 at The Margate Resort in Laconia, NH. Registration is now open and cost is 90.00 per person until December 1, 2010 when the price jumps to 120.00. Registration is limited to 500 attendees, so be sure to get yours early!

Infinitus Registration Party Thank-You!

On behalf of Amy and myself, we want to thank and recognize all the folks who gave up part of their weekend to help label and stuff registration packets this weekend: Flourish, Emeline, Cecilia, Alice, Dave, Jennie, Jacob, Alexa, Perseus, Draco, and their friend whose name escapes me at the moment because I'm fried. A few of these folks aren't even COMING to Infinitus - they just wanted to be able to help. Seriously, y'all are amazing.

We did a little totting up this morning: Among us all, we put in about 100 person-hours. We are about 70% done with the registration packets.

It was a monumental weekend and while we didn't quite get everything completely squared away, we are certainly well-positioned to finish it all up in the ten days we have before we leave for the site. We literally could not have accomplished that without everyone who pitched in - y'all are AWESOME.

Infinitus "Stuff-in-style" party this weekend

Hey, Boston area folks!

etakyma and I are hosting a party this weekend to stuff registration packets for Infinitus - this is not the programs or bags, but the ticket media, badges, and other ephemera for people's registration items. With 2300 people coming, we can use all the help we can get.

We've booked at suite at the Hyatt Summerfield in Waltham for the weekend. We'll be there from this afternoon (anytime after 5ish) through checkout on Sunday morning. If you're available and looking for some HP-geeking time, please join us!

The suite has wi-fi, a DVD player, and a kitchen, and we will be providing some snacks (contributions welcome). It also has ample crash space for taking naps or staying overnight.

We're also available and happy to pick people up at Alewife station or Waverley Square in Belmont (accessible on the 73 bus line from Harvard Square).

Call or text me (508-816-6644) or send an email to to let us know if you're coming, so we can give you room details or arrange pickup.

WHERE: Hyatt Summerfield Suites, 4th Street, Waltham (off Totten Pond Road)
WHEN: June 25-27
WHO: etakyma and gwendolyngrace and other area Fen!
WHAT: Stuff-in-Style!
WHY: Because we have to get it done... so we may as well have fun doing it.

ETA: We are in room 141.
